Spooky season is technically over. I was busy with family travel this weekend so I just reposted on my socials my spooky blog from last year with some paranormal encounters. One that I did not add was my experience in Dubrovnik, Croatia last year.
After meeting with my cousins in northern Croatia, a friend met me in Dubrovnik for four days (I have no interest in heavily tourist destinations, but had to check out why this town is so popular). Upon arrival, I could see why! Old Town is absolutely stunning with its red tiled roofs, old fortress walls, and ancient steps along narrow avenues. It’s a workout getting up to the apartment we rented. The apartment was small and narrow (like most of old Europe), but had everything needed for respite and comfortable beds. The two bedrooms and bathroom were on the main level. Then up some narrow, winding stairs, the living room, dining room, and kitchen was one large open area. Honestly, it really would be perfect to just live in! The views from the window were exquisite!
Our first night was very unsettling. In the middle of the night, heavy footsteps went up and down the narrow stairs, then stomped above our heads. It was loud enough to wake me up from a dead sleep. I kept thinking, wow, [friend] is so loud. Why is she stomping? Why is she wandering up and down the steps so much?
I eventually fell back asleep. In the morning, my friend asked me if I heard all the footsteps. We both busted out laughing because we both thought it was the other person! Later that day, I said aloud to no one, “hi, my name is Megan. My friend and I are leaving Sunday. Please don’t be so loud!”.
No joke, I didn’t hear footsteps for the remainder of the trip!
Another spooky travel encounter to add to my growing list.
Whether or not you believe in that sort of thing, I feel like so many people have their own stories of unexplained encounters. Too many to not believe, in my opinion.
